In July Harriet and I brought together 22 BMC alumni from the past 35 years to join us for a special two-week focus residency. We gathered to reflect on BMC’s design — how it functions to nurture activists and artists and create community. We celebrated Harriet’s vision and determination, and shared ideas for moving forward. I was often overwhelmed by the wisdom in the room, the love for BMC, and the eagerness to help move it forward.
It’s an honor to be the steward of this place and community. I’m grateful for Harriet’s encouragement, the approval of our Board of Trustees, and the enthusiastic support I’ve received from so many of you through this transition year. I may have signed on to take BMC into 2018 and beyond as the new Executive Director, but I can only imagine assuming this responsibility with your assistance, creativity and ideas.
Please send us program ideas for BMC. Give me a call (518-352-7391) or send an email (no tweets or texts please, this is BMC after all). In particular, we are looking for ideas and partners to design future conferences and weekend retreats. Together we can explore the intersections of art and social justice, welcome new participants, and continue to foster a community of engaged writers, artists and political activists working for a greater good.
I’m confident that collectively we will carry forward the goals and traditions that Harriet shaped, and continue doing our part to make this world a better place.
